Drafter of Staple Fiber Production Line Introduction
The main function of the drafter is to further process the as-spun fibers obtained from the spinning process, significantly enhancing the orientation degree of fiber macromolecules and thereby improving the physical and mechanical properties of the fibers. Its working principle is based on the stretching operation of the fibers. By setting different speed ratios (i.e., draft ratios) between each drafter, precise stretching of the tow can be achieved.
For example, in the production process of polyester staple fibers, the drafter can cause the fiber molecular chains to be orderly arranged along the fiber axis, enhancing the strength and abrasion resistance of the fibers.

From a structural perspective, the post-treatment drafters for staple fibers commonly adopt a cantilevered drafting roll structure. The drafting rolls are arranged alternately in parallel up and down and are driven by gears. A drafter usually consists of multiple drafting rolls, commonly five or seven. These drafting rolls can be divided into two categories: one is the ordinary drafting roll without heating medium inside, and the other is the special drafting roll with cooling water flowing inside. In addition to the drafting rolls, the drafter also includes components such as the drafting box, impregnation roll, anti-winding self-stop device for the press roll, lubricating oil circuit, and compressed air pipeline. The drafting box is equipped with a drafting shaft, transmission gears, and a lubricating oil device inside, which can lubricate each bearing and gear to ensure the stable operation of the equipment.
In actual production, the importance of the drafter is self-evident. Take a large chemical fiber production enterprise as an example. Its staple fiber production line is equipped with multiple drafters. By precisely controlling the parameters of the drafters, the produced staple fiber products have stable quality and are highly competitive in the market. Different types of staple fiber production have different requirements for drafters. When producing high-performance special fibers, drafters with higher precision and stability are required to meet the strict production process requirements of special fibers. In the production of ordinary staple fibers, drafters focus more on efficient and stable operation to ensure the needs of large-scale production.
In the post-treatment production line of chemical staple fibers, drafters generally do not operate independently. Usually, 3 - 4 drafters work in combination as a group. Each drafter has a clear division of labor and cooperates with each other. The preceding drafters initially stretch the fibers, and the subsequent drafters further refine the stretching effect to make the fibers reach the desired performance indicators. During the stretching process, to meet the different process requirements of the fibers, heat transfer media, hot boxes, hot plates, etc. can be flexibly set between the drafters for heating the fibers. For example, when producing certain fibers that require stretching under specific temperature conditions, the hot box can provide a suitable temperature environment, helping the fibers to better achieve macromolecular orientation and improve fiber performance.
